The M8S TV Box with Android™ is starting to show its age so it has now been discontinued. The new TV Box to replace it is the Mini M8S II. We’ve branded this box as our “signature box” so we’re calling it to the Astro Mini M8S II!
The Astro Mini M8S II TV Box with Android has the following improvements over the M8S:
- Faster Processor – The Mini M8S has a 64-bit S905X processor which is much faster than the 32 bit S812 processor that the M8S used and clocks in at 2.0 GHz!
- Newer Android OS – The Mini M8S II TV Box with Android comes installed with Android 6.0 versus Android 4.4 on the M8S. While this is mostly aesthetics, the newer operating system will have higher compatibility with apps you want to add to your TV Box.
- Enhanced 4K Video – The Mini M8S II is capable of outputting 4K video at 60 fps versus the M8S which could only do 30 fps. While it’s not important for streaming movies/TV if you watch 4K videos from a USB stick or external hard drive you can enjoy a smoother framerate.
- Lower Price – Last but not least! The Mini M8S II actually costs a bit less than the M8S did, despite being better hardware. This is because old technology typically costs more. This is done because the manufacturer is making less of the old hardware when something newer and better hits the market.
