Kodi v18 Leia update was released and tests reveal that it works perfectly on all Android TV boxes sold by Astro TV Boxes Canada. Kodi 18 will be pre-installed on all Android boxes sold by us.

Note that Kodi 18 is only compatible with Android 5.0 and above, so if you have an older device such as the M8S, MXQ, Minix Neo Z64, M8, etc. you will not be able to install this update. In simple terms, Kodi 18 will not work without modification on any device below Android 5.0. If you need a new device check out our selection here: Android Boxes for Sale

You can install the latest version of Kodi directly from Google Play Store by logging in with your Gmail or Google account or following the steps below if you don’t have a Google account and don’t wish to make one. I would highly recommend creating a Google/Gmail account so you can install other apps and games and get the best possible experience out of your Android TV box.

Installing or updating to Kodi 18 Leia outside of Google Play Store:

To make the process as easy as possible you should have ES File Explorer installed for these steps, it’s available free from Google Play Store. All Android boxes sold by Astro TV Boxes come with this app pre-installed.

1. From the home screen or under All Apps launch Browser or Chrome on your Android box.

2. Type in the address bar at the very top of the screen: atvb.ca/kodi18

3. Press Enter or Go on the keyboard (on-screen or USB). When prompted choose to open with ES Downloader and click [Always].

4. When the file is finished downloading click [OPEN FILE] and then INSTALL on the next two prompts.

Now exit back to your home screen and open Kodi. If you had Kodi 17 before following the steps above, the next time you open Kodi it will begin migrating add-ons to the newer format for v18 and then it will start installing updates after the migration is complete. The migration process could take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes depending on your internet connection speed, the number of add-ons installed and the processing power of your device. Just leave it do it’s thing until you don’t see any more update notices at the bottom.

Installing or updating to Kodi 16.1 on older devices below Android 5.0 which don’t support Kodi v17+:

1. Open Browser or Chrome from the home screen or under All apps
on your Android box.

2. Type in the address bar at the very top of the screen: atvb.ca/kodi16

3. Press Enter or Go on the keyboard (on-screen or USB). When prompted choose to open with ES Downloader and click [Always].

4. When the file is finished downloading click [OPEN FILE] and then INSTALL on the next two prompts.

That’s it, you should now have Kodi 16.1 installed. Exit back to the home screen and open Kodi to test it out.

If you can’t install the update because you have KodiX TV installed instead of Kodi, here’s what you need to do to preserve your current Kodi setup (add-ons and settings):

1. Open ES File Explorer under All apps

2. In the left menu click Local to reveal the sub-menu items.

3. Click on 0 (zero) under Local

4. In the right window navigate to Android > data

5. Click and hold on the folder named org.xbmc.kodi until a check box appears

6. Click the Rename button at the bottom of the screen

7. Rename the folder to org.xbmc.kodi.bak and click OK

8. Wait for the renaming process to complete and then press back (or right-click if using a mouse) a few times to exit ES File Explorer back to the home screen.

9. From the home screen navigate to Settings (gear icon) > Apps

10. Find KodiX TV in the list and click on it then click Uninstall and confirm that you want to uninstall the app

11. Go back to the home screen and then go to All apps > ES File Explorer

12. Click on 0 (zero) under Local

13. In the right window navigate to Android > data

14. Click and hold on the folder named org.xbmc.kodi.bak until a check box appears

15. Click the Rename button at the bottom of the screen

16. Rename the folder to org.xbmc.kodi and click OK

Now exit back to the home screen and then follow the steps at the beginning of this post to install Kodi 18 Leia
